Answer:
During the installation of Tomcat there is an opportunity to set the HTTP connector port number. After the installation is completed the Tomcat configuration software does not provide an option to change the connector port numbers. The installer prepopulates this port as 8080 however 80 is most typical. Often this single opportunity to change the connector port is overlooked or is assumed changeable at a later time. The good news is the connector port can be changed but requires editing the XML file which contains this information. Follow these steps to change the HTTP connector port:
- Stop the Tomcat service.
- On the server, open the Notepad application using “Run As Administrator" (required to allow overwriting of existing file).
- Within Notepad open “server.xml" typically located here: \Program Files\Apache Software Foundation\Tomcat x.x\conf\
- Change the “Connector port" to the desired port number.
- Save the server file and close Notepad.
- Restart the Tomcat service.
- The new connector port will be active.
Note:
It is recommended to make a backup copy of server.xml file before editing.
