Jetpack JPK-1300: Inability to Learn IR Signals from Certain Remotes

Escalation Article

Brand:

  • AMX

Affected Products:

  • JPK-1300 (Jetpack 3x1 Switcher / Transmitter Kit)

  • JPK-1300-EK (Jetpack Kit, EK Version)

Summary:

  • An issue has been identified where the Jetpack JPK-1300 exhibits an inability to properly learn infrared (IR) command signals from certain manufacturer remote controls (specifically Sony and Philips devices).
  • When attempting to use the JPK-1300’s built-in IR learning window, the captured Pronto hex codes are recorded with inaccurate structural timings. Consequently, when these learned codes are transmitted back to the display or source device, the target equipment fails to respond. This is due to a hardware sampling frequency limitation where certain remotes use a higher carrier frequency or distinct signal format (such as Philips RC6 codes) that the JPK-1300's native receiver cannot cleanly demodulate.

Troubleshooting:

  • To verify and resolve this issue, please follow these steps:

Step 1: Verify the Learning Failure

  • Ensure the remote button is pressed cleanly only once for up to 8 seconds during the learning sequence. Avoid repeatedly tapping the button.

  • Compare the captured code in the JPK-1300 web GUI. Highly compressed or truncated hex strings (e.g., only repeating simple sequences like 0010 0012 instead of long structural blocks) indicate an inaccurate capture.

Step 2: Apply the Resolution

  • Update the Firmware: Upgrade your Jetpack kit to Receiver (RX) Firmware v1.04.06 or newer. This update optimizes the on-board IR learning window algorithms to support a wider array of high-frequency consumer IR remotes.

  • Alternative Workaround: If a highly unusual legacy device still fails to learn after the update, capture the code using a dedicated high-sample-rate learner (such as an AMX IRIS2) or retrieve a verified discrete hex code from an online database (such as Remote Central). Manually copy and paste that verified Pronto hex code string directly into the Jetpack's web console IR window.
