What You Will Need:

· Terabyte Image for Windows (GUI) Software
· Windows PC
· Appropriate Image pertaining to your Vi model. Contact Harman Pro Technical Support to get a copy of your model's Image file
· Compact flash reader to USB cable
· 2.5mm hex screwdriver
 

Re-imaging a drive (CF card or SSD) of a console can resolve issues when the Image becomes corrupt.  Here are some scenarios when you should consider re-imaging. Compact Flash cards should be replaced every 2 years.
 

Potential Symptoms:​​

· Software is acting buggy or erratic.

· Hardware isn’t responding as normal, responds intermittently.

· Displays showing Blue Screen.

· Console intermittently reboots even though BIOS settings are up-to-date.

You can re-Image the CF card taken from the console or use a new one. The process of imaging a new card is the same.

It is also possible to order a preprogrammed CF card for the Vi1 from Harman, its SKU is BF10.947011.​

Note:

THIS IS NOT A GUARANTEE THE CONSOLE WILL GET BACK TO WORKING ORDER, BUT WILL RULE OUT HARDWARE FAILURE SHOULD IT RESOLVE THE ISSUE.

PLEASE ENSURE YOUR SHOW FILES ARE BACKED UP TO A THUMB DRIVE, AS THIS PROCEDURE WILL WIPE THEM OUT. YOU CAN LOAD THEM BACK TO THE CONSOLE AFTER THE RE-IMAGE.

Accessing the CF Flash Card
 

The CF card is locat​ed on the distribution board (main board). Open the console by taking out the screws with your 2.5mm hex screwdriver:
 

Pull the TFT module (the metal plate containing the screen) towards the faders.  Move the module carefully to avoid any damage to the metal parts or the cables.  The plate will rest at a 40-degree angle. There is a small metal slot built into the frame that will hold the plate in the service position.
 

Once the console has been opened, you will be able to remove CF card from the distribution board. If your CF card has never been replaced, it will be held down by electrical tape to prevent vibration when moving the console and good tight fit into the slot.

You may remove the tape and simply pull up on the CF card to remove it from the slot.

Re-Image Procedure​​
 

1. Start by installing the Terabyte Image for Windows software found at the link above.
2. Remove the card from the console.

3. Connect the CF card to your PC (e.g. using a CF card USB adapter):

Take note of what Letter drives the CF card has been assigned to by your PC.  In the below example, drive’s G, and H are the VI’s CF card:

 4. Open Image for Windows located in the directory where you installed the software by locating the folder titled TeraByte Drive Image Backup and Restore Suite:

For 32 bit operating systems, open the Imagew file. For 64 bit operating systems, open the Imagew64 file:

When the software opens, disable Simple Mode by unchecking the option.

5. Now that you have Image for Windows open, you’re ready to Image the drive.  Click Restore and select Next:

Select the block titled Normal and select Next: 

Image for Windows will now want you to select the location of the backup file, this will be the Image file you received from Harman Pro Technical Support.  If you saved it to your desktop, documents, or downloads folder it’ll be located on your C drive. Select that drive and select Next:            

Now select the Image file on your computer.  Do this by clicking the Windows/Network Browse icon located at the upper middle area of the screen:         

Locate the Image file where you saved it. Select the Image file and click Open then select Next:         

Now Image for Windows is asking what partitions to use from the Image file when loading it to the CF card.  Select the top-left check box to add all partitions to the CF card and then select Next:​        

Now Image for windows is asking which drive you would like to re-Image.  THIS MUST BE DONE CORRECTLY SO YOU DON'T WIPE YOUR INTERNAL DRIVE.  This is where knowing what letters were assigned to your drive from your computer will come in handy.  The Vi CF card will always show up as a second drive, putting your computer's drive first in the list.  Select the drive as seen below and select Next.      

You'll now get a warning message informing you that the content on the drive you selected will be wiped as well as your saved shows as well.  Select Yes to continue.      

You'll now enter in to the “Restore Options" page for the re-Image.  Leave these settings as they are and click Next:

Look over the summary and make sure “To: Drive" is associated to your Vi CF card, not your computer's Internal Drive and click Start. DO NOT OVERLOOK THIS STEP:​ 

 Once the re-Image has completed, close out of Image for Windows and Eject the CF card from your computer.

6. Install the CF card back into the console.

7. Close the TFT module and screw the panel back into its place.

8. Remove any Expansion Cards currently installed to the console.

9. The Console will start up with the message “Installing..."

Do not touch it at this point. Wait until the console shuts down.

When the console switches off, all LEDs and displays are switched off - only the “POWER ON" button should be blinking.

 9.         Wait approximate 10 seconds.

10.        Attach external cards to expansion slots – if used.

11.       Attach Ethernet network cable – if used.

12.       Press “POWER ON" button on console.

13.       The console starts up – after approximate 30 seconds, the console is ready to use.

Your console will not be running the current software and will need to be updated.  Please reference the Updater instructions to get your console on the latest software.
