What is DMX?
DMX512 is a standard for digital communication networks that are used to control stage lighting and effects. It became the primary method for linking controllers (such as a lighting console) to dimmers and special effects devices such as fog machines and intelligent lights.
Why is my fixture not responding to the DMX controller?
This can be due to a mismatch between the controller address/mode settings and the fixtures. The cabling to the fixtures may also be at fault. Please contact controller manufacturer for additional information regarding specific fixture profiles which may need to be updated or installed.
Why are some fixtures in the DMX daisy chain not responding correctly?
A DMX terminator may be needed. Please contact Martin parts for more information.
If a fixture has 3 pin and 5 pin DMX connectors can they be used at the same time?
You can use the 3 or 5 pin DMX IN jack and the DMX OUT 3 or 5 pin jack but only one IN or OUT jack at the same time.
What is RDM?
Remote Device Management (RDM) is a protocol enhancement to DMX512 that allows bi-directional communication between a lighting or system controller and attached RDM compliant devices over a standard DMX line. This protocol will allow configuration, status monitoring, and management of these devices in such a way that does not disturb the normal operation of standard DMX512 devices that do not recognize the RDM protocol.
