Description:

AVX Architect uses different types of digital wires that function differently between the SYSTEM view and VIRTUAL view.

SYSTEM View:

In the SYSTEM view, wires are purely representational, but they do provide the signal naming for devices downstream. Connecting or disconnecting wires in the SYSTEM view does not affect audio or signal flow, just naming. This representation is useful for documenting physical device connections and assisting with troubleshooting.

Wire types in the SYSTEM view include the following:

  • Analog audio connections are represented by purple wires.
  • Digital signals such as AES3 are represented by gray wires.
  • GPIO wires for control ports are green.
  • Ethernet connections, such as those to a switch, are shown with blue wires.
  • Fiber connections are displayed with light green wires.
  • BNC clock connections are orange.
  • Improper connections appear as red, such as when attempting to connect an Analog output to a Digital input.

VIRTUAL View:

The VIRTUAL view is where actual programming occurs, and wires represent real audio and logic routes.

In the example shown, one processor and one expander are used.

An analog input is routed to the expander, then fed into a Dante output. The wires appear as solid light gray, indicating that connected objects exist on the same device.

The signal can return to the DSP through a Dante input, pass through processing objects, and exit via a Dante output.

The signal then returns to the expander through a Dante input and is routed to the analog output.

The second line demonstrates similar routing but uses privately routed Dante to connect the expander input to DSP processing and back.

Dotted wires indicate that connected objects exist on different devices, resulting in a networked connection.

These wiring concepts also apply to logic objects, such as an expander GPI routed through a NOT gate before reaching the DSP GPO. Logic and GPIO control signals are indicated by blue wires in the VIRTUAL view.

Wiring shortcuts include the following:

  • To create a wire, select an input or output node on one object, then select a node on another object.
  • Wires can be deleted by right-clicking and selecting Delete or by pressing the Delete or Backspace key.
  • Multiple nodes can be selected by clicking and dragging.

  • Wire splits can be created by pressing a number key corresponding to the desired number of splits, up to nine.

  •  Additional splits can be added to an existing wire by double-clicking anywhere on the wire to create a new node.

  • Multiple wire splits can be tied in simultaneously by selecting nodes and connecting them to an existing wire.

  • To combine multiple wires into a single endpoint, select the nodes and press and hold the C key.
