Counter Shifter - Logic Processing | AVX Architect
In this tutorial, we explore the Counter Shifter object in the Virtual View of AVX Architect. Learn where to find it in the Virtual Library, how its output states change based on input cycling, and how to configure its properties for advanced DSP logic processing. The Counter Shifter is ideal for creating sequential logic behaviors in AV systems.

In this video, we’ll continue to explore the Virtual view of AVX Architect and look at the various Logic Processing objects. The Counter/Shifter can be found in the Virtual view, under Logic, in the Processing section. The Counter/Shifter object is used to create conditional actions within the program. The outputs of the Counter/Shifter change in response to the input cycling from low to high.
The object block has 8 outputs by default but is selectable from 1-32. The inputs from top to bottom are the logic source input, the reset input, and the direction input. The Counter/Shifter object has no factory panel. All the parameters available for this object are found on the right, in the “Properties” window. The “Properties” window has the usual naming, workspace location, and DSP allocation settings. The Options section contains the number of outputs and the type.
The default Type is Binary. In this mode, the outputs will increment in binary fashion each time the input goes high, or ON. Notice how the outputs cycle as the input is triggered. In Binary mode, when the reset input is ON, all outputs will be set to OFF. Setting the direction input ON, the outputs will count down rather than up. Let’s look at the object as the shift down type now. When set as shift down, the output which is high will move on to the next output each time the input goes high. When the reset input is triggered, output 1 will be set to ON with all other outputs OFF. Setting the direction input ON will reverse the direction of the shift.
