My output/input button is greyed out on the patching page, how do I fix this?

Answer:

You can only access outputs and inputs if you have the item selected, like an input channel or an output buss. Select the output or input you want to change and then the corresponding selection will be available.

If you're trying to route for recording, the direct out patch is found on the Input Patching screen.
