Summary:
Mold was reported on the mesh covers of JBL PRX312MD loudspeakers upon unboxing. Investigation found no mold or corrosion on the iron grilles; all mold was localized on the woofer paper cones, indicating a localized issue rather than a raw material defect.
Based on the analysis, the most likely contributing factor was water splashing onto the cone surfaces. As a corrective action, protective packaging bags and desiccants were added for this model, effective starting with April 2026 production batches. The case was marked completed following implementation of these preventive measures.
Troubleshooting:
This model previously did not use protective packaging bags.
To prevent similar issues in the future, DD has implemented the addition of packaging bags and desiccants, effective starting from production batches in April 2026
