Summary:

Reports of rust forming on VTX A8 front grilles have been linked to grille assemblies manufactured prior to a corrosion-resistance improvement introduced in 2022.  To reduce the risk of grille corrosion in the field, Engineering released a design change, which updated grille materials, coatings, and manufacturing requirements across the VTX family.  Units produced before this change may be more susceptible to corrosion over time, particularly if the protective finish has been compromised.

Troubleshooting:

The reported rust is limited to the grille assembly and does not affect the acoustic performance or operation of the loudspeaker.

To improve long-term corrosion resistance, JBL implemented a grille design update in 2022 that enhanced the protective finish and manufacturing process used on VTX grilles.  Units manufactured prior to this update may be more susceptible to cosmetic corrosion over time.

If rust is present, the recommended solution is to replace the affected grille with the current production revision, which incorporates the latest corrosion protection improvements.
