Overview:

When using the pass mode on the NI series Com port, the escape sequence for exiting pass mode (++Esc,Esc) will still be transmitted out of the port to the connected device.  This may result in unpredictable device behavior for the connected device, depending on how it reacts to that sequence.

This problem has been observed with Extron Switchers that have ethernet ports.  Some of the commands in the Extron protocol begin with the escape character.

Notes from Tech in field:

"I was on site on two different occasions where I was dealing with Extron switchers that have ethernet ports (CrossPoint 12x8, MAV 24x24).  When doing a pass through (AKA Pass Mode) on our NI series device Com port (I do not think this is relative to NI's only), communication to the switcher worked great, getting status, switching inputs, etc.  However, when exiting pass mode (++ Esc,Esc), I lost control over the switcher via the program; i.e., button_events, send_strings, etc..  Functionality will return after a few minutes or after someone pushes buttons on the front of the unit.
