Brand:

  • AKG

Models:

  • H84

Overview:

The H84 uses elastic bands (often called suspension cords) to isolate the microphone from vibrations, handling noise, and stand movement.  Over time, these bands can stretch, dry out, or break, reducing shock absorption and letting unwanted noise through.

This article outlines the steps for changing or replacing the elastic band suspension on an H84 shock mount.

Removing the Old Elastic Band

  1. Place the shock mount on a flat surface.

  2. Select one of the two elastic bands.

  3. Find the elastic’s metal sleeves — positioned in the notches on the outer frame — and remove one of them.

  1. Slide the elastic loop out of the first notch.

  2. Unthread the elastic from the inner cradle.

  3. Remove the band completely.

Installing the New Elastic Band

  1. Let's use the metal clamps for reference.

2. Attach the first metal sleeve to the hook closest to the mic stand.

3. Stretch the band upward to the opposite outer hook.

4. Hook the two outer corners near the mic stand.

5. Stretch the band to hook the remaining two outer corners.

6. Continue by guiding the band through the inner latches.

7. Finally, pull from the center and attach them to both hooks of the outer mount.

8. Repeat the same steps to remove and replace the second band if needed.
