Question:

Where do I go to convert a file written for one panel model to another panel model?

Answer:

In both TPDesign 4 and TPDesign 5 under File, there is the option to Save As Different Panel Type...

This window appears with multiple options.

  • Panel Type
    • The panel type you want the end file to convert to.
  • Scale Buttons & Popup Pages
  • Scale Fonts
  • Scale Images
    • TPDesign will attempt to scale these items to the new panel resolution from the old panel resolution if applicable.
  • Maintain Aspect Ratio
    • This option is greyed out in this example because the starting and ending panel resolution is the same. If the panels had different resolutions, this option would be available.
  • New filename
    • This is the path to save the new panel file.
    • If you are saving to the same directory where the current file exists, the filename or path will have to be changed.

When making large jumps between resolutions, it may be advisable to not scale one or more of these options. If the resulting file does not look good, please try turning on/off these options to see how the file looks.

Verify the current panel file and the panel type you are converting to, then click Save.

After the conversion you are given a summary. The summary could include notifications the button border no longer fits the button or an image is too large for the button etc.

These items do not have to be addressed if the panel file looks fine and you are happy with the results.

Once you click OK, the original file is closed and the converted panel file is opened for evaluation.
