Brand:

  • AMX

Models:

  • All AMX/SVSI encoders and decoders
  • NETGEAR AV-Line switches: M4250 and M4350

Overview:

This article describes how to apply the HARMAN Professional AV Network Profile on supported NETGEAR AV-Line switches.  The profile simplifies deployment by automatically classifying HARMAN devices and assigning them to the appropriate control, audio, or video VLAN based on LLDP and the device MAC OUI.  This article focuses on configuring the HARMAN network profile only and does not cover complete switch configuration.

Prerequisites

  • Access to the NETGEAR AV web interface.
  • A supported NETGEAR AV-Line switch.
  • HARMAN Professional AV devices available for validation.
  • Current switch firmware that includes the HARMAN Professional AV Network profile.

Procedure

1.  Log in to the NETGEAR AV web interface.
2.  Navigate to Configure > Network Profiles.
3.  In Profile Templates, locate HARMAN Professional AV Network and select the gear icon.
4.  Select the switch ports that will use the profile, then assign the HARMAN Device profile to each required port.
5.  Optionally customize the profile name and VLAN IDs for the Control, Audio, and Video networks.  The profile template itself cannot be modified.
6.  Apply and save the profile changes.
7.  Connect the HARMAN devices to the configured switch ports.
8.  Verify that each device is automatically assigned to the correct VLAN.  You can also confirm VLAN assignments from the Neighbors view.

How Automatic VLAN Assignment Works

The HARMAN Device profile uses LLDP together with the device MAC OUI to identify connected HARMAN products.  Based on the detected device type, the switch automatically assigns the appropriate VLAN:

• Control devices → Control VLAN
• Audio devices → Audio VLAN
• Video devices → Video VLAN

This significantly reduces manual configuration and minimizes deployment errors.

Verification Example

After the profile is applied, connecting a HARMAN controller automatically places the port in the Control VLAN, while connecting an AMX/SVSI encoder/decoder automatically places the port in the Video VLAN.  Connecting an HARMAN audio device automatically places the port in the Audio VLAN.  VLAN assignments can be verified from the Network Profiles or Neighbors pages in the switch interface.

Limitations and Considerations

For deployments requiring tagged trunk ports carrying multiple VLANs, additional manual configuration is required.  The HARMAN profile does not automatically configure multi-VLAN trunk ports.  Products supporting network tagging include the Networked AV N2600, N3300, and N4321D series.  Configure these scenarios using the standard VLAN and port profile settings after applying the appropriate profile.

Summary

The HARMAN Professional AV Network Profile provides a streamlined method for deploying HARMAN devices on supported NETGEAR AV-Line switches by automatically identifying devices and assigning them to the correct network VLAN.  This approach reduces configuration time while improving deployment consistency.

Example

After selecting the gear icon for HARMAN Professional AV Network.  Click on port one and two, and select HARMAN device.  Then apply those changes.

Connect a Muse/NX controller to port 1 and an N2600 encoder/decoder to port 2.  You should see Ports 1 & 2 have automatically been put into the Control & Video VLAN respectively.

Go to the Neighbors section of the switch to see the ports are in the correct VLAN
