Overview:

How to use the “New Firmware Update in N-ABLE, Build Dec 13 2021

The N-Able release, Build Dec 13 2021 introduced a self-contained firmware updater.   This updater ultimately offers the same end game as previous versions of the standalone application, but some features are noteworthy.  A directory that can contain a firmware repository of multiple versions for many SVSi models.  Making it easier to manage firmware for different units.  Updater now shares the database of units found in N-able, making it easier to update units already found in previous searches.  Having a single updater also simplifies the “firewalling" allocation.  Just set the firewall one time instead of each time for the self-contained updater.

Preparing for the Update:

When downloading firmware from the website, the .zip will contain many files.  You should extract the 2 files with the extension .bin and .ver to the update directory.  By default, it's located in the Downloads/svsiupdates folder.  You can verify this by clicking on the Menu Settings link.  It will bring up dialog below where you can verify or change the location of the firmware repository.

Launching the Updater:

You will launchUpdater from the "Tools" section.

Selecting Firmware:

  • Choose the firmware for the specific models you wish to update.

!! Important !!

Choose only one firmware version per model of the units you wish to update.

Example, you have N4321 units and 2300 units, you can select firmware for each of the models.

  • Select "Activate Updates".

At this point you should be seeing the Updater interface.

  • Select the Unit/s you would like to update.
  • Press the "Update Selected Units" button.
