- BLU-BoB2
Overview:
The BSS BLU-BOB (Break-Out Box) is an output expander designed for use within Soundweb London systems. It provides a convenient way to increase the number of analog outputs available in your system by converting BLU link audio channels to balanced analog line-level signals.
The BLU-BOB integrates seamlessly with other BSS BLU-series processors such as the BLU-100, BLU-806, BLU-800, BLU-160, and others that utilize BLU link for audio distribution.
Features:
- 8 balanced analog outputs on Phoenix/Euroblock connectors
- BLU link input and output ports for daisy-chain or loop-through connection
- Selectable channel banks for assigning any set of 8 channels from the 256-channel BLU link bus
- LED indicators for Power & Signal Presence.
- Compact, rack-mountable (1U half-rack width) form factor
- No configuration software required — channel selection via rear-panel DIP switches
- Compatible with all BSS Soundweb London devices using BLU link

How It Works:
The BLU-BOB acts as a D/A (digital-to-analog) converter within the BLU link network.
Each device on the BLU link bus can transmit or receive up to 256 channels of digital audio at 48 kHz.
By selecting a specific channel bank (1–32) using the DIP switches, the BLU-BOB extracts 8 consecutive channels from the BLU link stream and outputs them as balanced analog audio.
For example:
Bank 1 = Channels 1–8
Bank 2 = Channels 9–16
Bank 3 = Channels 17–24
…and so on, up to Bank 32 = Channels 249–256.
Multiple BLU-BOBs can be connected in parallel, each assigned to different channel banks to expand the total analog output count of your system.
Typical Applications:
The BLU-BOB is commonly used to:
- Expand the analog outputs of a DSP like the BLU-100 or BLU-806DA
- Feed multiple amplifiers, zone outputs, or recording devices
- Provide analog outputs for systems primarily using digital transport (BLU link)
- Create distributed audio systems across venues, conference centers, or houses of worship
Example Scenario: A BLU-100 provides 12 inputs, processing and 8 analog outputs.
Adding one BLU-BOB increases this to 16 analog outputs, all synchronized through BLU link.
Front and Rear Panel Overview:
Front Panel:
- Power and Signal LEDs

Rear Panel:
- 2 x RJ-45 (BLU link IN/OUT) ports
- 8 x 3-pin Euroblock connectors for analog outputs
- 5 DIP switches for channel bank selection
- 12vDC power input

Important Notes:
The BLU-BOB is not detected in Audio Architect — it operates as a passive BLU link device.
The maximum BLU link cable length is 100 meters per segment (Cat5e or better).
The BLU-BOB2 version offers identical functionality but is a full rack width.
