In this video, we’ll continue to explore the Virtual view of AVX Architect and look at Presets. Presets represent a collection of parameters that can easily be recalled to specified values. To start with Presets, open the Presets window from this button in the top right corner of the workspace. The Presets window will be empty by default. Let’s go ahead and add a Preset Group by pressing this plus icon, then selecting “Add Preset Group”. Our new Preset Group will now appear in the list with a single preset. The Preset Group is the collection of parameters that will be modified when the Preset is recalled.
Now that we’ve got a Preset Group, let’s rename it. You can right-click a Preset Group to Delete, Rename, or add a new Preset to the group. I’m going to call this one “Gains”. Now, let’s add some parameters to this group. You can add parameters directly from the object’s factory panel by enabling selection mode, right-clicking the parameter, and selecting “Add to Preset Group”. This window will appear with a drop-down menu to select the group that we just created, then click “save”. Now our gain parameter is showing in the Presets window within our Preset Group. If we wanted to add all of the parameters of this gain object, we could simply right-click the object, and select “Add to Preset Group” just like before. This will add all the remaining parameters to our Preset Group.
The values stored for the first preset are the values that were set when I created the Preset Group. In this case, the gains are all at unity. If I move any of these gains, then use the “Recall” button to load the preset, they will reset to unity. If you want to change a value for a parameter, simply set the parameter to the new value, then click the “Update” button in the Presets window. Let’s create a new preset by right-clicking on the Preset Group, then selecting “Add Preset”. Let’s say I want our first preset to have the gains at unity, then the second preset will have all gains at -10db. After setting all the gains to -10db, click the “Update” button in the Presets window, and it will ask us to accept the change to the Preset. Now, you can see that the values have updated here in the list, and also that the gains will update when I toggle between the two Presets using the “Recall” button.
In the Presets window, you can remove single or multiple parameters by selecting them using the checkbox, then selecting “Delete” in the bottom right corner. Now the gain we removed will no longer be affected by recalling the preset. Let’s create another Preset Group. Preset Groups can also be created by right-clicking the object and selecting “Create New Preset Group”. I’m going to name this one PEQ. An object’s parameters can also exist in multiple Preset Groups. Right-click the gain object, then select “Add to Preset Group”. Now add it to the PEQ group we just created. In the Presets window, we can now see that the Gain object’s parameters are in both the Gains group and the PEQ group. Also in the Presets window, this last button by “Update” will open the Preset Panel. In the Preset Panel, you’ll find Recall and Update buttons, a Last Recalled state indicator, and the Preset Names that can all be used in Control Panels by enabling the selection mode switch.
