External Interfaces - Control Ports | AVX Architect
In this tutorial, we show how to use GPIO with an external source selector in AVX Architect. You’ll learn how to pair GPIO with logic objects to control the Source Selector using an analog resistor‑ladder controller. We’ll walk through configuration in the Virtual View, mapping inputs/outputs, and best practices to expand your external control capabilities with Soundweb OMNI hardware.

In this video, we’re going to continue exploring GPIO applications and use GPIO with an external interface. In this first example, we’re going to use the BSS AC-5S, which is designed to connect to General Purpose Inputs for source selection or recalling presets. One connection is made to the 5V terminal, and another to a single GPI. It is a resistor ladder, so each position on the controller will have a different resistance level, resulting in different voltage levels at the GPI.
In the Virtual view, drag a Logic Percentage Converter from the Logic section of the Virtual Library. The Percentage Converter will be used to capture the voltage level at each position on the controller. Set your controller to the first position, connect the GPI to the Percentage Converter, and go ahead and deploy. Next, open the Percentage Converter factory panel. The Input here at the top is showing us what percentage is registering at the GPI. The bottom section here tells us that the output of this Percentage Converter will be on if the input matches the conditions we set. In this example, we want to select “Equal to” because we are dealing with specific values, and then select “Get From Input” so the value is pulled here. Notice now that the output of the Percentage Converter will now be high. This process will need to be repeated for each position on the controller, so we will need to do this for 4 more Percentage Converters. *time lapse* Now, stepping through the positions on the controller, we can see the activity here as the Percentage Converters go from low to high.
I want to use this as a source selector, so let’s drop a Selector object into the workspace and change it to have 5 inputs. Enable selection mode, and drag the source selection drop-down into the workspace. This will provide us with a Logic multi-state. Notice that this object has 6 inputs. That’s because “none” is an option, and will be the first node. Connect the Percentage Converters to the Logic multi-state’s other 5 nodes. We won’t worry about the outputs of this logic object, since they are not needed for this example. These outputs could be used to further trigger other devices or actions.
GPO can also be used to trigger external devices. When set as a binary type and the input of the GPO goes high, then a control voltage will be sent out at the set Max Voltage level. This voltage could be sent to a relay module with open and closed states. This will create the contact closure that can be then fed to the external device. Make sure to check with wiring diagrams of external devices before making connections to your Soundweb Omni device.
In the next video, we’ll continue to expand on these GPIO concepts and work with external interfaces.
