Bindings - Control Ports |AVX Architect
In this tutorial, we show you how to use GPIO objects to interact with parameter bindings in AVX Architect. This powerful feature allows you to control system parameters using GPI or trigger external devices using GPO. We’ll demonstrate an example with mute and gain control, providing the foundation for endless control possibilities in AV systems.

In this video, we’re going to expand on the GPIO concepts we learned about in the last video and learn how to assign GPIO to various parameters within the Soundweb Omni devices.
In this example, I’ve got the same GPI and GPO objects from the last video. Remember that this GPI we’ve got connected through a 5V switch. Let’s say that I want to use this switch to control a mute function in the processor. Add a gain object into the workspace, then open the factory panel. Enable selection mode using the selection mode button in the top right corner, then drag the mute button directly into the workspace. Notice that it has automatically created a Logic Binary object that has already been bound to the mute. Once this GPI is tied into the new Logic object, the mute button will remain low as long as the incoming GPI is low. Engaging the switch will put a High output on the GPI object because our incoming voltage is more than the On Threshold, and will result in the mute becoming active as well. This same concept could be used to control the gain parameter if we had a potentiometer creating a variable voltage coming in. Notice how bringing in the gain parameter provides us with a Logic Continuous object. We would only need to switch this GPI to a Continuous type and make sure that the Reference Voltage is the max voltage coming from the source. If using the 5V port on the back on the Omni device, this would be 5.
Let’s use this gain control with a GPO instead. The GPO from our last example is here with the type Logic Continuous, and a Max Voltage of 12V. Connect the output node of the Logic Continuous object to the node on the GPO. Now, we can open the GPO factory panel and see that moving the gain parameter will provide a variable voltage control signal as an output. The factory panel will show the percentage compared to the max value and the current voltage level. This could be useful in the control of external devices.
In the next video, we’ll continue to expand on these GPIO concepts and work with external interfaces.
