Overview:

This article provides a description of Auto Standby functionality and outlines key points to be considered when using this feature.

Description:

Auto Standby is a power-saving feature of ComTech D models.  The parameters are located within the Power and Fan Management section of the System page in the WebUI.

Auto Standby

Parameter values:  Enabled or Disabled

Time to Auto Standby

The time after which the device will enter the Auto Standby state when the output signal level remains below a pre-defined threshold.
Parameter values:  Number of minutes expressed as positive integers between 3 and 60

Functionality:

Auto Standby enabled

The device will enter Auto Standby state when the output signal level on all channels remains below a pre-defined threshold for the time set in the Time to Auto Standby parameter. The following will occur when the device enters Auto Standby state:

  • Amplifier power stage will deactivate
  • Ethernet Port A and Port B will deactivate.  Network control and network audio activity will cease.
    • Device will not be discovered in AVX Manager.  Device discovered in AVX Manager previously will change Status to OFFLINE
    • Device will not transmit or receive network audio.  Device will no longer be discovered in Dante Controller.
  • Power consumption will be reduced to ~2W

The device will leave the Auto Standby state when the output signal level on any channel exceeds a pre-defined threshold or when the Power button on the front panel is pressed.  The device will only react to signal on the analogue inputs since the Ethernet ports are deactivated.  The following will occur when the unit leaves Auto Standby state:

  • Amplifier power stage will activate
  • Ethernet Port A and Port B will activate.  Network control and network audio communication will resume.
    • Unit will be discovered in AVX Manager.  Unit discovered in AVX Manager previously will change Status to RUNNING
    • Unit will begin to transmit and recieve network audio.  Device will be discovered in Dante Controller.

Auto Standby disabled

The device will enter Idle state when the output signal level on all channels remains below a pre-defined threshold for three minutes. This process cannot be disabled. The following will occur when the device enters Idle state:

  • Amplifier power stage will deactivate
  • Device discovered in AVX Manager previously will change Status to IDLE
  • Power consumption will be reduced to the following amounts:
    • ~15.5W for CTD-8125
    • ~12.2W for CTD-4125
    • ~8.2W for CTD-2125

The device will leave the Idle state when the output signal level on any channel exceeds a pre-defined threshold.  The following will occur when the device leaves Idle state:

  • Amplifier power stage will activate
  • Device discovered in AVX Manager previously will change Status to RUNNING

Key points and considerations:

  • Auto Standby is not appropriate for devices which use Dante inputs or outputs only.  A device can only leave the Auto Standby state with signal present on the analogue inputs.  It will not leave the Auto Standby state with signal present on Dante because the Ethernet ports are deactivated in the Auto Standby state.
  • With Auto Standby disabled, the Idle state will provide some power saving for devices using Dante inputs or outputs only.

Further power saving can be achieved with the Sleep feature which can be configured on GPI control port 1 and activated with a contact closure.  The parameters are located within the GPIO section of the CONFIGURATION page in the WebUI.  The power consumption will be ~0.5W in Sleep mode.
