Parameter Links | Virtual View - AVX Architect

Video Manual Series

Written by Tony Smith

Updated at October 30th, 2026

In this tutorial, we cover Parameter Links in AVX Architect’s Virtual View, a feature that creates a 1:1 mapping between parameters of two audio processing objects or multiple parameters within a single object. Learn how to create Parameter Links, understand the rules and limitations, and use them effectively in your system design.

Transcript
In this video, we’ll continue to explore the virtual view of AVX Architect and look at Parameter Links. A Parameter Link represents a one to one mapping of parameters of a similar type. Parameter Links can exist in one object or link parameters across multiple objects.
In this example, there is a mixer with multiple channels. Let’s say we want to link some of these faders or mutes for this application. First, open the Parameter and Object Links window by clicking the Linking button in the top right of the Virtual View window. The left side of the Parameter and Object Links window will contain your list of links. We currently have none, but let’s create one by clicking the plus sign, then selecting “Add Parameter Link”. Our new Parameter Link is now shown here in the list as “Parameter Link 1”. You can right click a Parameter Link to rename, delete, or move it to another host device. Let’s rename this one to “Fader Link”. Remember that links cannot work with the same name and must use unique names.
Now that we have the Parameter Link created, let’s link our faders. Remember that setting up Parameter Links must be done offline. Open the mixer object factory panel, then enable the Selection Mode Switch. Next, right click the fader and select “Add to Link”. We can then use this drop-down to select our Fader Link that we created. Let’s go ahead and link the rest of our faders. Once our faders are linked, we can see this in our Parameter and Object Links window under the “Fader Link” we created. Now, bringing up the factory panel for the mixer, we can disable selection mode and see that the faders are linked and reflecting the same values. Exact values is the default link type and can be changed in the Parameter and Object Links window. Click this icon next to the Parameter Link name where it says “Exact” and you can change the link type. Setting this to “Soft” we will see that the faders maintain the relative level between them while still moving up and down together.
Let’s link some of our mutes now and talk about the other link types. Parameter links can also be created from the object’s factory panel. Enable selection mode and right-click the mute button of the first channel, then select “Create New Link”. You will have the option to name the link and select the link type. Let’s name the link “Mute Link” and set the type to “Radio one on”. Go ahead and link the rest of the mutes to our “Mute Link”. Leave selection mode then enable one of the mutes. Notice that we cannot disable this mute, and only one mute can and must be active at any time. This is the behavior of the “Radio one on” link type. In the Parameter and Object Links window, let’s change the link type of our “Mute Link” to look at the other Link Types. “Radio one or none on” is similar to “Radio one on”, where only one mute can be active at once, but we are now allowed to have no mutes active, hence “one or none”. “Radio one off” means that all of our mutes will be active except one that must be off. Finally, “Radio one or none off” is similar to “Radio one off”, but with the option to set all mutes to active.
Parameter Links can also be turned on and off. In the Parameter and Object Links window, click this button in the top right of the window to open the Links Panel. The Links Panel will present all of our Parameter Links along with an On/Off status button. Clicking this to turn it grey will disable the link, and we see that our faders no longer move together. This Links Panel also has a selection mode switch, allowing us to grab this on/off button and use it in GPI control or using in a custom control panel.
