Button - Common Controls | UI Design View - AVX Architect

Video Manual Series

Written by Tony Smith

Updated at October 30th, 2026

In this tutorial, we introduce the Button object in the UI Design view of AVX Architect. The Button is a simple yet powerful control element for binary actions like mute or polarity. Learn how to add a Button to a panel, assign parameters, and customize its look and behavior to create intuitive user interfaces for AV systems.

In this video, we’ll continue to explore the Common Ui elements of the Design View and look at the Button. The Button is found in the Ui Library section of the UI Design view. After a panel has been created, click and drag the Button from the Control Library into a panel page workspace. This is the default button, and this exclamation point means that there’s no control assigned yet. Let’s go ahead and assign a parameter to it. In the parameters section of the left pane, expand your devices or use the search function to locate the parameter you’d like to associate with the button. Let’s assign the mute function of this gain object to the button. Click and drag the parameter directly on the button, and the exclamation point will go away.
Let’s look at some of the settings available for the Button in the properties window. The Button’s coordinates and size can be changed here, or by directly clicking on the button and moving it around the workspace and using the handles to resize. Button type is set here, and we’ll talk about the different types in more detail in a moment. “On Value” can be used to associate the parameter with the on state. In this case, the “On Value” could be muted or unmuted. Next is “State Styles”, which will allow us to change the look of the button. Use this On and Off to select between modifying the On or Off states of the button. Opacity, background color, and border color are listed here first. Since this is a mute, let’s make the on-state red, and the off-state green. Label is the text that’s displayed on the button, or you can use the Icon drop-down to use an icon instead of text. Icon color can be changed here as well. The “Style” section contains text font, style, size, color, and opacity. The alignment of the text can be found under that. Finally, settings for the border width and corner radius of the Button.
Let’s talk about some of the different button types now. The default type is Toggle, and the Button will simply toggle on and off as we click it. The Latching type will cause the button to lock into the On state once it is triggered. Momentary will cause the button to only stay on as long as the button is pressed and will go to the off state once I release it. Bump up and Bump will increase or decrease a value, which can be useful for selectors. Last is the multi-state button. When you drag a parameter to a multi-state button, you’ll get this window to choose between “indicator” and “set”. “Set” is what happens or what is triggered when we press the button, so let’s set the mute here. Now, let’s drag this channel polarity and select “indicator”, which is what is controlling the state of the button. Notice now that when I press the polarity button on the gain object, the button state changes but the channel is not muted. When I click the button, the mute of the channel engages, but the state of the button does not change.
