Overview:

This article will explore the CONTROL LIBRARY of the UI DESIGN view and look at the Button.

To see a video of this article, click HERE.

Description:

The Button is found in the COMMON CONTROLS section of the CONTROL LIBRARY of the UI DESIGN view.

Adding the Button control

After a panel has been created, click and drag the Button from the CONTROL LIBRARY onto a panel page workspace.

This is the default button, and this exclamation point means that there is no control assigned yet.

Assigning a Parameter

In the PARAMETERS TREE in the left pane, expand the devices section or use the search function to locate the parameter to associate with the button.

To assign the mute function of this gain object to the button, click and drag the parameter directly on the button. The exclamation point will go away when a parameter is assigned.

Properties

The Button's coordinates and size can be changed here, or by directly clicking on the button and moving it around the workspace and using the handles to resize.

Button Type is set here, this will be covered in more detail in a moment.

The On Value can be used to associate the parameter with the on state. In this example, the On Value can be muted or unmuted.

The STATE STYLES section is where the look of the button can be changed. Use the On and Off tabs to select between modifying the On or Off states of the button.

Opacity, Background color, and Border color are listed here.

Because this is a mute, make the on-state red, and the off-state green.

Label is the text that is displayed on the button.

You can also use the Icon drop-down to select an icon instead of text. Icon color can be changed well.

The STYLE section contains text font, style, size, color, and opacity settings.

The alignment of the text can be found below that.

Finally, settings for the border width and corner radius of the Button.

NOTE: If you do not see the STYLE section, you may need to scroll down in the Properties pane.

Button Types

The default Button type is Toggle, and the Button will simply toggle on and off as it is clicked.

The Latching type will cause the button to lock into the On state once it is triggered.

Momentary will cause the button to only stay on as long as the button is pressed and will go to the off state once I release it.

Bump up and Bump down will increase or decrease a value, which can be useful for selectors.

Last is the multi-state button.

When dragging a parameter to a multi-state button, this window will pop up to choose between indicator and set.

Set is what happens or what is triggered when the button is pressed. Choose set for the mute.

Now drag th channel polarity and select indicator, which is controlling the visual state of the button.

Notice now that when I press the polarity button on the gain object, the button state changes but the channel is not muted.

When I click the button, the mute of the channel engages, but the state of the button does not change.
