Description:
The example provided involves configuring a six-button keypad with a rotary controller. However, the principles described apply to all OMNI dynamic keypads.
Begin in the SYSTEM view of AVX Architect and add a configurable device to the design. A DSP is required to incorporate audio and logic processing objects.

The keypad must be selected from the Dynamic Keypads section of the configurable devices list. Ensure the correct model is chosen—in this case, the six-button wall controller with rotary control.

Proceed to the VIRTUAL view. Processing objects must be present in the virtual workspace to enable keypad interaction. Add a Gain object to simulate volume control and activate master controls for a master mute.

Include a Meter object to control the LED ring surrounding the rotary control.

A Logic Source may also be added for assignment to one of the buttons.

Next, access the UI DESIGN view. Upon initial entry, the workspace will be empty due to the absence of controllers or panels.

Add a panel by clicking the plus symbol in the left pane and selecting Add OMNI Keypad.

Choose the appropriate keypad model from the template list—Dynamic Keypad with Six Buttons and Rotary Control.

After selection, click the Create button to generate a visual representation of the keypad in the workspace.

Clicking the outer area of the keypad allows modification of the page name and background color via the Properties window.
The background color determines the button display color and will be visible behind any image that does not fully occupy the button.

Each button on the page may be selected to view its properties and parameter bindings.

Begin by assigning a parameter to the first button. Use the Parameters Tree in the left pane to locate the gain object.

Assign the Channel 1 Mute parameter to mute and unmute the source audio. Avoid using the master mute in this instance. Drag the parameter onto the first button. A green outline will appear, indicating a bound parameter.

Select the button to access the Properties window.

The button type may be adjusted via the dropdown menu.

The On Value can be set to Muted or Unmuted.

States allow assignment of different images for the on, off, and alternate button conditions.

Images are managed through the Image Library in the left pane.

Supported formats include PNG, JPG, and SVG, with a maximum resolution of 188 by 188 pixels. Add images by clicking the plus symbol. Transparency is supported for PNG and SVG formats.
For this example Images have been created for mute, unmute, and an arrow for navigation.

With the mute button selected, choose a state in the Properties window and drag the corresponding image to assign it.
The On state uses the muted image, as the On Value is set to Muted.

Assign the second image to the alternate state. Non-transparent images will display the background color behind them.

Multiple pages may be added to a keypad. Click the plus symbol in the User Interfaces section of the left pane and select Add Page to Selection.

Each page will have unique parameter bindings. To enable page switching, use the Page Flip parameter found in the Interface section of the Parameters Tree.

Assign this parameter to a button and use the arrow image to indicate navigation.

Set the destination page in the Parameter Bindings section of the right pane.

The rotary control includes three binding areas.

The Rotary Button parameter is activated when the button is pressed.

The Master Mute on the gain object may be assigned here to mute all outputs, useful when multiple sources or zones are present.

The Rotary parameter is controlled by turning the rotary dial and may be assigned to gain or any continuous control.

The LED Ring Control may be assigned to mute, gain, or meter parameters to provide real-time visual feedback.

To remove a bound parameter, right-click the control and select Unbind Parameter.

This action does not remove associated images. To clear both images and parameter bindings, right-click the button and select Clear.
After configuring the keypad in the UI DESIGN view, return to the SYSTEM view to assign the created panel to the device. Select the device and use the UI ASSIGNMENT dropdown in the right pane to select the panel.

Deployment to a live device will be covered in a separate article.
