What is the format of Crown 4-digit date codes?
Answer:
There are actually 2 fomats, depending on the age of the device and the model.
The older Crown 4-digit date code format
Older Crown devices manufactured before ~2010 will typically have a 6 digit serial number and will also have a 4-digit date code with the 2 inside digits for the month and the 2 outside digits for the year. That is, YMMY.
For example, this D75A manufactured in April of 1997 has a date code of 9047.
The newer Crown 4-digit date code format
Starting ~2018, Crown DCi amplifiers manufactured in Mexico started using a 4-digit date code where the first 2 digits are the week# and the last 2 digits are the year. That is, WWYY. The week starts on Monday. Sometime later, the I-TechHD amplifiers transitioned from a full date to the 4-digit date code.
For example this 4x3500HDS was manufactured the 9th week of 2026, that is, the week starting Monday, February 23, 2026. It has a date code of 0926.
Additional Information:
- For a short time from late December 2021 thru mid 2022, the DCI and ITechHD amplifiers were manufactured without a date code.
These amplifiers will have a serial number starting with 155, but no date code.
All DCi and ITechHD amplifiers manufactured since the end of 2021 will have serial numbers starting with 155.
All DCi and ITechHD amplifiers manufactured since mid 2022 will also include the 4-digit date code.
