Overview:
This article describes the process of connecting JBL SRX900 series' loudspeaker to our JBL Performance software, verifying communication, and accessing system configuration controls, such as EQ and presets. Once the process is understood, project designs can be built out fully offline, ready to import to the system when on-site. In this example, we will be utilizing the SRX906LA. Ensure your loudspeaker is powered on and connected to the same network as the computer running JBL Performance before beginning.
Connecting in JBL Performance:


- Next, move to the Connect tab. JBL Performance will scan the network and display any discovered compatible devices. When the physical SRX906LA appears in the discovery list, match it to the offline device that was placed in the workspace. This links the software representation to the hardware on the network. Note that the HControl ID will follow the setting on the speaker prior to connection. After successful connection, this can be updated inside JBL Performance and the change will be reflected on the speaker.

- After matching, click Connect & Send to establish communication with the loudspeaker and transmit the project configuration to the device. Sending ensures that the settings contained in the project file are synchronized with the SRX906LA’s internal DSP. The device should now indicate that it is online within the software.
Verifying Signal and Configuring the Array:
- With the device online, the next step is to confirm signal flow. Begin by moving to the Test tab, then ensuring the loudspeaker is not muted within the software. Enable the built-in Signal Generator and select an appropriate test signal, such as pink noise or a sine wave. Gradually raise the output level while observing the software meters and listening for output from the loudspeaker. Starting at a low level is recommended to avoid unintended high output.

- Successful signal confirmation verifies proper communication and amplifier operation. If signal is not present, recheck network status, mute state, routing configuration, and physical connections before proceeding.
- Once signal flow is confirmed, processing adjustments can be made. Navigate to the Tune tab. Within this view, several controls are available for real-time adjustment. We will begin with the EQ. Frequency, Gain, and Q parameters can be modified as needed, with changes immediately applied to the device while it remains online, allowing you to tune the arrays for your venue space with familiar reference tracks.

- Factory presets can also be accessed within this tab. These presets are designed to optimize performance based on deployment conditions and system configuration, like the 80Hz high-pass for use with subwoofers . Select the appropriate preset for your design and it will automatically apply the highlighted setting to the device.

- The Tune tab contains many useful views, both for configuration and troubleshooting. Below are some examples of these views, like Array Size Calibration, Polarity, and Voltage monitoring. You can even bring in project files from our free 3D design and acoustic simulation software, Venue Synthesis. We will explore these topics more in future articles. Once setup and tuning are complete, be sure to save the project file to allow quick recall of the configuration in future sessions.
