How do I connect to my Ui Mixer Hotspot?

  1. Connect your device to the Ui12, Ui16, or Ui24R using Wi-Fi. When searching for wireless networks you will see the Ui model broadcasting its SSID.
  2. Open an Internet Browser on the device.
  3. Type 10.10.1.1 or ui.io into the Address Bar and hit enter.

If you get a screen with random colors or some random website go back and make sure you’re connected to the Wi-Fi for your Ui mixer.

Where do I get the app for the Ui mixer?

There is no app for the Ui series as everything is built into the mixer. It works as a WiFi hotspot you connect to and control with the built-in website.

What is the size of the DC socket used on the Ui 12 and Ui16?

It is a 5.5mm x 2.1mm socket with a locking ring around it.

Why do I see a connectivitycheck.gstatic.com message when connecting to the Ui mixer’s hotspot?

Connectivitycheck.gstatic.com is one of several subdomains under gstatic.com, a domain Google uses to serve static content like CSS, JavaScript, and images.  Chrome and Android devices rely on it to verify whether a network has internet access.  If no connection is detected, the browser may open a captive portal login page; otherwise, it allows normal browsing.  In short, this message appears when the Wi-Fi network you’re connected to doesn’t have internet access.

How to do a Master Password Reset for Ui Mixers?

Prerequisites:

  • You will need a USB Flash Drive that is 32GB or smaller in size and formatted for FAT32. The formatting can be performed on either Windows or Mac computers.

Download:

  • masterpass.zip

Procedure:

  1. Download the attached file (masterpass.zip) and unzip it.  Inside is the file you need, “masterpass.txt".  Either copy/paste or drag and drop it onto the root of the empty flash drive.  Do not be alarmed that the file is blank, this is normal.
  2. Power the mixer off.  Insert the flash drive into one of the Ui's USB ports.  Any USB port will work except the USB I/F port (Ui24R only).
  3. Using a slim, long object (such as a paperclip), hold the reset button down for approximately 30 seconds while powering the unit back on, then release the reset button, but do not power off the unit after this.
  4. After releasing the reset button, leave the flash drive inserted in the mixer for 3 minutes to ensure that the reset is complete.  Do not attempt to use the mixer during this time. The Ui will recognize the masterpass.txt file on the flash drive and perform a password reset.
  5. Once 3 minutes have passed, you must power cycle the unit and then reconnect the client device. Leave the unit off for 15 seconds before powering it back on. The reset is now completed.

How do I perform a firmware update on a Soundcraft Ui mixer?

You will need a USB Flash Drive that is 32GB or smaller in size and formatted for FAT32. The formatting can be performed on either Windows or Mac computers.

  1. Download the update file from the Soundcraft website (www.soundcraft.com), it will be located on the product page for your specific model Ui-series mixer. Leave the file in the zip format. If using Safari on Mac, it will automatically unzip the file after being downloaded. To prevent this, inside of Safari, navigate to “Preferences" in the toolbar, then uncheck the option “open “safe" files after downloading".
  2. Copy the file to the flash drive. The file can reside in any directory.
  3. Ensure a client device (iPad, tablet, phone, PC, or Mac computer) is connected to the Ui mixer's GUI.
  4. Insert the flash drive into one of the Ui's USB ports. Any USB port will work except the USB I/F port (Ui24R only).
  5. A prompt on the screen will show that the USB device has been inserted and mounted. After the flash drive has been read (which may take up to a minute) the update will be recognized, and the GUI will prompt you to update the mixer.
  6. Select OK to confirm.
  7. The Ui mixer will perform the firmware update.
  8. When complete, the GUI will present another message stating whether the update has been successful or not.
  9. Once the unit's firmware has been updated successfully, you must power cycle the unit and reconnect the client device. Power off for at least 15 seconds before powering back on.
  • Want to watch a VIDEO instead?

How do I perform a full reset the the Ui mixer?

***NOTE***

A full reset will take the mixer back to its factory default settings. Check the firmware as it may have gone back to the original factory build once the reset is complete. If so, you'll need to update the firmware again.

Download:

  • fullreset.zip

Procedure:

You will need a USB Flash Drive that is 32GB or smaller in size and formatted for FAT32. The formatting can be performed on either Windows or Mac computers.

  1. Download the attached file (fullreset.zip) and unzip it. Inside is the file you need, “fullreset.txt".
The Ui will recognize the fullreset.txt file on the flash drive and perform a factory reset.
  5. Once 3 minutes have passed, you must power cycle the unit and then reconnect the client device. Leave the unit off for 15 seconds before powering it back on. The reset is now completed.

  4. Continue holding the Reset button for 10 seconds and release.
  5. Let the mixer sit undisturbed for approximately 3 minutes while it performs the reset.
  6. Power the mixer off and back on again.
  7. When the blue "Wi-Fi" light stops blinking and stays on solid, you should be able to discover and connect to the internal Hotspot again.

How do I change Wi-Fi channels on my Ui mixer?

By default the Ui series of mixers are configured to use channel 9.  If you are experiencing connection issues, the first thing to try is to change the current Wi-Fi channel to a channel that is less busy.  You can determine which channels are the least busy using a Wi-Fi analyzer app found on your smart devices marketplace.  In general Soundcraft has found that channels 1 and 11 are usually not very busy and we recommend trying one of these first.  You may also try one of the 5Ghz channels found further down the list of available channels.

The steps to change the Wi-Fi channel can be found below.

  1. Press the Settings Icon
  2. Press the Network tab
  3. Press the Config button
  4. Login (default username is admin, and default password is also admin) You do not have to change the Administrator Password at this time.
  5. Press Hotspot Configuration
  6. Scroll down to the Channel section and use the drop down to select the desired channel
  7. Press Save/Update
  8. Press Cancel/Exit
  9. Reboot mixer using power switch

How do you adjust the EQ of the master on the Ui mixer?

  1. Select the Edit button located at the top of the mixer page.
  2. Select master slide located at the bottom right of the page.

This will present the EQ page of the master slider.

How can I create a shortcut to open the Ui mixer in full screen or kiosk mode?

Full Kiosk Mode is easily available on Windows with Firefox.

Other browsers can do a Fullscreen mode manually on Windows and MAC.

On Windows Desktop

Firefox:

  • Left click on Windows start menu:

  • Scroll down program list and open Firefox:

  • Left click and hold on Firefox and drag link over to desktop. Release mouse.

  • Right click on the desktop shortcut and select Properties:

  • Notice the target:

  • We want to add [ -kiosk http://<mixer ip address>/mixer.html] after the firefox.exe.
  • There must be a space after the ".
  • Use your mixer’s ip address and remove the < >.
  • It should look like this: "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" -kiosk http://<mixer ip address>/mixer.html.  Hit Apply and OK to close.

  • Now that the desktop shortcut has been created, it is very easy to change the name.  Right click on the shortcut icon and select Rename.

Note

There is a sample desktop shortcut sample to download.  It is set to run mixer in Kiosk mode when connected to the mixer's internal hotspot.

  • After running mixer in Kiosk mode on Firefox, you need to click Alt + F4 to close the screen and browser window.

Microsoft Edge:

  • Same process but after the msedge.exe”, add [--kiosk http://<mixer ip address>/mixer.html] (notice 2 dashes before the word kiosk).
  • This only works on Microsoft Edge Version 87 or later.

Google Chrome:

  • Possible with superuser programming.

On MAC Desktop

  • Here is an easy way to create a quick shortcut on the desktop
  • Resize the browser window so you can see both your desktop and the browser window on the same screen.

Safari and Chrome:

  •  Left click on the address in the address bar.
  •  While still holding the mouse button down, move the pointer to the desktop and then release the mouse button.

Firefox:

  • Left click on the "Lock" icon on the left of the address bar (where the mixer’s address is shown).
  • While still holding the mouse button down, move the pointer to the desktop and then release the mouse button.
  • From here, you can set the browser to hide the address bar to almost fill whole screen.  This differs and changes browser to browser, so you will have to find the latest way to achieve the full screen function.

Note:

Advanced programmers can write a script to open in Kiosk mode and/or there are 3rd party apps that will do so as well.

Connecting the UI Mixer to a Network Switch

First, we need to know the addressing scheme of the Network Router.

Connect a device (PC, Tablet or Phone) to the Router Network, either wired or wireless.

Follow these steps to get the IP addressing scheme of the Network:

Windows

  • In the search bar, type “cmd". Once Command Prompt opens, type “ipconfig".
  • Look for the active network adaptor and make note of its IP Address, Subnet Mask and Default Gateway.
  • The gateway is the address of the Router:

MAC OS

  • Click the Apple icon in the top-left corner of your screen.  Then select System Preferences.

  • Next, click Network.

  • Next, select your network.
  • For example, you can select Wi-Fi or Ethernet, depending on how your computer is connected to the internet.
  • You will see your computer's private address in the Status area:

  • Then click Advanced:

  • Next, click the TCP/IP tab.  This is the second tab from the left at the top of the window:

  • Finally, you will find your computer's IP address next to IPv4 Address and your Router's IP address next to Router:

Tablets and Phones

We are using iPad as example, most mobile devices have similar menus.

  • Select Settings:

  • Next select WiFi and hit the Info button for the active network connection (your Router):

  • Once selected, you will see the IP address of the connection as well as the Router's address.  The Router's address is the Gateway:

Configuring The Mixer

  1. Use this same range to program your Ui LAN IP and Subnet.  For Example, if Router Gateway address is 192.168.1.1, then the Ui can be 192.168.1.250 (Pick a high number to be above the range the router hands out to other devices).
  2. Sign on to the Ui hotspot and login to the Network Config (user=admin, password=admin) and select LAN configuration:
  3. Enable the Ui's Ethernet Port if not already enabled.
  4. Under LAN "Address" enter the IP in the range of your Router.  It is also possible to have this set to DHCP but in the situation where it's just a single device it will be easier to set a Static IP.  The Subnet Mask should be 255.255.255.0 and the Gateway should be the address of Router.
  5. Copy or write down the IP address.
  6. Click Save/Update, wait until the page refreshes.
  7. Power off the Ui for 15 seconds, then turn back on.
  8. Connect to the Router, open browser and type in the address you assigned the mixer.
  9. It can be useful to create a shortcut or bookmark to that address as you will always use it to connect to mixer when you are connected to the Router.

What does it mean if the blue light on my Ui Mixer never stops slowly flashing?

The internal firmware is corrupt and needs to go in for repair to a factory service center.

Ui pages stick and are very jumpy using a Chrome based web browser (Chrome, Opera, Edge)

The latest version of any Chrome based browser is very unstable, pages stick, then jump.  Scrolling will continue after the user has stopped scrolling.

This has been noted on all Chrome based browser.  We recommend the use of Firefox web browser instead.

We have found that any Chrome based browser (Google Chrome, Opera, Edge, and more), is having issues handling HTML5 animations.  The Ui series of mixers uses HTML5 animations for control of the mixer.  If you are having these issues, use a different browser.  Mozilla based browsers (Firefox) seem to handle the HTML5 animations smoothly and without issues.

Do you need internet for the Ui to work?

The Ui mixer has a built-in Wi-Fi hotspot.  Connect to the internal wireless router using a Wi-Fi enabled device like a laptop or phone.  Once connected, you can control the mixer through a web browser.

Why can't I see all my input channels, aux channels, or other options in my Ui mixer.

This is usually due to a corrupt Cache of the web control page in your browser.

The solution to this problem is to clear the browser history and cookies.  This is different for each browser.  Below you will find links to a step by step guide for how to do this in each of the most popular browsers.

How Can I Create Desktop Shortcuts to a Ui Mixer on an iPhone and/or iPad Using Safari?

The best way to create a desktop shortcut direct to mixer on iPhone and/or iPad desktop in Safari is:

  • Open Safari and browse to Ui mixer. Select the Tablet or Phone.

  • Note- Phone mode has limited control, so we suggest Tablet mode, even on a phone, if you want full control of mixer.
  • Select the “share” icon near the top right of screen.

  • Scroll down list and select “Add To Home Screen”.

  • Notice that the shortcut will have the /mixer.html or /phone.html appended.
  • This can be edited to change what mixer type opens.

  • You will now see a new shortcut on desktop.
  • Click on the shortcut to open Safari and navigate to the mixer.

  • The browser opens as full screen mixer page from that shortcut.  To move the window, pull down on the three dots at top of screen.

Fine Tuning Function on Ui Mixer Faders

The Ui mixer has a function that allows adjusting a fader with higher precession.

  • To activate this feature, click or tap and hold a fader for 1-2 seconds and a blue halo will appear around it.
  • Now move the fader up and down for fine-tuning.
  • This feature is also referred to as the “nudge function".

  • You can turn on this feature in the LOCAL tab of the SETTINGS menu.
  • It is called HOLD FADER FOR FINE TUNING.

Can I zoom in/out the Ui mixer's screen when using an iPad?

Yes, you can.  On the iPad select System Preferences > Safari > PAGE ZOOM.  In the Page Zoom menu, you can adjust the zoom percentage. For the Ui mixer, you cannot choose a setting larger than 100%.  This setting will apply to all websites opened in Safari.

When trying to scroll to channels not visible, the mixer acts like it is stuck on certain channels and can not see any others.  Ui mixer not able to access all channels, aux, FX, etc.

Check View Groups:

  • View Groups define mixer channel views.
  • For example, you could assign all drum channels, plus the Drum VCA to View Group 1 for instant recall.
  • Click on the UI logo in upper right corner of screen.

  • You will see right away if any View Groups have been enabled.
  • Toggle the button to enable/disable.
  • Left click and hold the View Group (or Mute Group) button to open View (or Mute) Group editor.

  • The ‘INPUTS’, FX RETURNS, SUB GROUPS, and AUX MASTERS buttons available in the Slideout panel are simply convenient preset View Groups.
  • Notice how, when “Inputs” are enabled, you can not scroll past the last input channel.
  • Simply toggle the button(s) to disable any view group to return mixer to full layout.

How do I connect a turntable or record player to my Soundcraft Ui mixer?

The output level or voltage from a turntable or record player is very small, in fact too small for the mixer to pickup.  Therefore you will need to use a separate device called a Phono Preamplifier (some turntables have this built in) to boost the voltage high enough for the mixer.  You will then plug the output of the Phono Preamp into the Line In jacks (RCA connectors) on the front of your mixer.  Once plugged in, you will need to turn up the level of the Line In on your mixer to an adequate playback level.

How do you create a delay on the AUX/Master outputs?

A delay on the AUX/Master outputs can only be used on the Ui24r.

  • First select the AUX Sends page.
  • Next you will select either the AUX tab you wish to add the delay to or master slider.
  • Long press at the bottom of the slider for the option to add your delay.
  • The delays can be measured in ms, meters, feet, samples or frames.

How do you change the channel on the Ui mixer's hotspot?

If you are experiencing intermittent connection issue while connecting to the Ui's hotspot, you should try changing the channel of the hotspot.  This can be done by selecting the settings gear on the mixer's main page and selecting the network tab.  Once you are on the network page select config and enter your admin credentials.  Next, select Hotspot Configuration, this will take you to the hotspot settings.  On this page you will find a channel drop down, you can select any of the channels on the drop down that are available.  Once you have selected a channel you will save the settings then reboot the mixer.

How to Integrate an External Router to Your Ui Series Mixer

Synopsis

This information is generally universal for most modern wireless routers; however, we cannot guarantee that it will work with them all. We recommend having the owner's manual of your particular router on hand in case you need to clarify steps covered in this guide. In order to get the Ui mixer to communicate with your wireless router, we're going to have to make some changes to the the Ui mixer's LAN configuration.

Wireless Router & Ui Mixer IP Configuration

  • First, we need to gather some information from your wireless router in order to configure the Ui mixer's LAN Configuration.
  • Login to the wireless router's network via WiFi connection with either a computer, smart phone, tablet, or iPad.
  • In this example, we're utlizing a Linksys wireless router for demonstration.

  • According to the owner's manual of the router, the IP address is 192.168.1.1.
  • This IP address is considered the Gateway in the Ui mixer's LAN configuration settings. We'll use this address to access the wireless router's web GUI configuration window by utilizing a web browser.
  • Open a browser of your choosing, e.g, Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Edge, etc... and type in the IP address of the wireless router in the browser's address bar, as seen below.
  • As seen below. you will most likely be asked to provide a user name and password to access the router's configuration window.
  • For Linksys, the user name is "admin", the password is also "admin".
  • Should this not work for your router, the owner's manual (associated to your wireless router) will provide this information.

  • As we can see below, the Subnet Mask (referenced as "Netmask" in the Ui mixer's LAN Configuration window) is "255.255.255.0".
  • Let's make note of this somewhere for later use. We'll also want to make sure that DHCP is enabled on the router.
  • As seen below, this particular router has a DHCP range of "192.168.1.100 - 192.168.1.150", enabling a total of 51 DHCP devices.
  • This means that any device connecting to the router, via WiFi, will be given one of these addresses, automatically.
  • Part of our objective, during this process, is to give the Ui Mixer a LAN IP address that falls within the IP range of the wireless router's network.
  •  Let's stay away from the DHCP addresss that are allocated by the wireless router when assigning an IP address to the Ui mixer since we'll be assigning a static (manual) IP address to it.
  • We can pick any address that's not the Gateway or within this range of DHCP addresses. In this example, we'll be assigning the Ui mixer's LAN IP address to "192.168.1.200". T
  • ake note of this address for later use.

  • Sign on to the Ui mixer's hotspot with the same device we used to access the wireless router's configuration window above, e.g, computer, smart phone, tablet, or iPad.
  • Using the web browser, type in the address "10.10.1.1" or "ui-mixer.io".
  • Either option will work the same when accessing the Ui's GUI via the Ui's Hotspot.
  • Select the GEAR icon, then the "Network" tab, then the "CONFIG" button.

  • Login using the following credentials: user = "admin", password = "admin", then select "LAN Configuration".

  • Leave the Ui Ethernet port "Enabled".
  • Leave the Address set to "Manual".
  • Edit the Ui Mixer's IP Address to be "192.168.1.200".
  • The Netmask is already correct if your wireless router is utilizing a Subnet Mask of "255.255.255.0".
  • Make the necessary edits to the Netmask field if your router is set differently.
  • Edit the Gateway to equal your Router's IP Address. In this example, the Gateway is "192.168.1.1".

  • Click "Save/Update" (wait until the page refreshes). Power cycle the Ui mixer to finalize the saving process by powering it off for 15 seconds, then power the Ui mixer back on.
  • Connect an Ethernet cable from the Ui mixer's Ethernet port to one of the router's Ethernet ports . Make sure to use a LAN port (Ethernet), NOT the WAN (Internet) port of the router.
  • Internet use/connectivity is not necessary for this application.

  • Login to the wireless router's WiFi network with a computer, smart phone, tablet, or iPad.'s wireless network.

  • Open your browser (Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Edge, etc...). Instead of navigating to the usual "ui-mixer.io" or "10.10.1.1" page, utilize the new IP address we just assigned to the Ui mixer: "192.169.1.200" by typing it into the brower's address bar, then press enter.

  • You are now controlling your Ui Mixer via the LAN/Ethernet port using an external router.
  • You can create a shortcut to the Ui Mixer's Web GUI (the "192.168.1.200" address) for easier access by creating a Bookmark of the page in your Browser.
  • We recommend leaving the Ui mixer's Hotspot enabled for an alternate method to access the GUI.

Why do I get a website other than the Soundcraft Ui mixer interface when I go to ui.io or ui-mixer.io?

One of two things can cause this.

  1. You need to disable "Auto-Connect" or "Auto-Join" on your other existing network connection in the WiFi configuration settings of your phone, tablet, or computer.  When "Auto-Join" is enabled, your device will automatically revert back to that network connection if you are in range so that you have internet connection.  Then, when you enter ui.io or ui-mixer.io into your browser, your device goes out to the internet to search for that instead of connecting to the mixer.
  2. If you are using an external router instead of the built in hotspot, your router does not know that ui.io or ui-mixer.io is supposed to take you to the mixer interface.  Instead, you would need to use the actual IP address of your mixer.

Do the Notepad mixers and the Ui12 and Ui16 have the same external power supply?

All Notepad mixers have the same external, 18V, 1.3A mid-lead power supply.  Although the Ui12 and Ui16 also has an external, 18V, 1.3A mid-lead power supply, it is not the same.  The Ui power supply has a power adapter with a threaded locking ring to prevent accidental removal.  On the Notepad mixers, you can fix the power cable with a cord restraint located on the back of the mixer to prevent accidental removal.

Why do ui.io and ui-mixer.io stop working when I switch to an external router?

ui.io and ui-mixer.io are known as hostname URL's, or just hostnames. Hostnames are friendly names that can be used to navigate to a website on the internet or network instead of entering the actual IP address.  However, in order for hostnames to work, you must have a Domain Name Server or DNS within the network, and that DNS must have entries for those hostnames.  When you connect to your mixer using the internal hotspot, Soundcraft have included a DNS entry for those hostnames within the mixer itself and so the mixer knows that when you enter either of those hostnames into your browser, that it should redirect you to the default IP address 10.10.1.1 (the internal hotspot). When you purchase a third-party external router, They do not have a DNS entry for those two hostnames so that the router can redirect you to the actual IP address.

Therefore, when you use an external router with your Soundcraft Ui mixer, Soundcraft advises that you use the IP address of the mixer instead of hostnames to navigate to your mixer control interface.  The default IP address for the LAN connection of your Ui mixer is 10.10.2.1. If you change that IP address as part of integrating an external router, be sure to remember the new IP address of the mixer, because that is the address you will have to enter into your browser in order to connect to your mixer.

How to reset the network configuration password for the Ui mixers?

Prerequisites:

You will need a USB Flash Drive that is 32GB or smaller in size and formatted for FAT32. The formatting can be performed on either Windows or Mac computers.

Password Reset:

configpass.zip

  1. Download the attached file (configpass.zip) and unzip it.  Inside is the file you need, “configpass.txt”.
The Ui will recognize the configpass.txt file on the flash drive and perform a password reset.
  5. Once 3 minutes have passed, you must power cycle the unit and then reconnect the client device.  Leave the unit off for 15 seconds before powering it back on.  The reset is now completed.
