Question:
Why do ui.io and ui-mixer.io stop working when I switch to an external router?
Answer:
ui.io and ui-mixer.io are known as hostname URL's, or just hostnames. Hostnames are friendly names that can be used to navigate to a website on the internet or network instead of entering the actual IP address. However, in order for hostnames to work, you must have a Domain Name Server or DNS within the network, and that DNS must have entries for those hostnames. When you connect to your mixer using the internal hotspot, Soundcraft have included a DNS entry for those hostnames within the mixer itself and so the mixer knows that when you enter either of those hostnames into your browser, that it should redirect you to the default IP address 10.10.1.1 (the internal hotspot). When you purchase a third-party external router, They do not have a DNS entry for those two hostnames so that the router can redirect you to the actual IP address.
Therefore, when you use an external router with your Soundcraft Ui mixer, Soundcraft advises that you use the IP address of the mixer instead of hostnames to navigate to your mixer control interface. The default IP address for the LAN connection of your Ui mixer is 10.10.2.1. If you change that IP address as part of integrating an external router, be sure to remember the new IP address of the mixer, because that is the address you will have to enter into your browser in order to connect to your mixer.
