N8002/N8012 NC 1.0 Primary/Secondary configuration

Steps to configure Primary/Secondary for N8002/N8012 with N-Command 1.0

  1. Go to the Secondary unit's webpage.
  2. Admin -> Configure IP Addresses
  3. Enable eth1 2nd address and configure the current IP and netmask from eth1 1st address
  4. Configure eth1 1st address and netmask with a unique IP and netmask of your choosing. The IP address given to the Secondary's eth1 will become the Secondary's “monitor" IP. The Primary and Secondary “monitor" IPs must be in their own unique IP subnet. They will not need to communicate with any other device except each other (example: 172.20.254.105 255.255.0.0 from 1st screenshot below)
  5. Go to Admin -> Configure -> Configure Primary/Secondary
  6. Use the dropdown to select This N-Command is the Secondary
  7. Go to the Primary unit's webpage
  8. Go to Admin -> Configure -> Configure Primary/Secondary
  9. Use the dropdown to select This N-Command is the Primary (see 2nd screenshot below)
  10. Secondary is located at: input the Secondary's monitor IP address/eth1 1st address (172.20.254.105)
  11. Primary monitor IP: input the Primary's monitor IP address of your choosing. IP needs to be in same unique IP subnet as                             Secondary's eth1 1st address (172.20.254.106)
  12. Input the correct netmask and Secondary gateway information (255.255.0.0 172.20.1.1)
  13. Select the desired recovery option
  14. Click Configure Primary and Secondary now. The Primary will configure itself and then configure the Secondary. The Secondary will acknowledge the Primary, and the Primary's web page will display a message indicating success.

It takes about 10 minutes for the databases to synchronize. Then log in to the Secondary's monitor IP address (172.20.254.105) and you should see a message that unit is a Secondary and Dormant. When Secondary takes over, it will assume the Primary's IP addresses and will give a message that unit is a Secondary and Active. Failovers take 3 minutes. Every minute, the Secondary queries the Primary. If it gets no response 3 times in a row, the salve will assume the Primary is offline and take over.

Note: Once configured as Primary/Secondary, the Secondary's web page is only accessible from the Secondary's monitor IP address/eth1 3rd IP address (172.20.254.105).
