ZonePro - How to Connect over Ethernet

Written by Carlos Mendoza

What you will need: How to get connected:

What you will need:

-  Windows computer.

-  ZonePRO GUI Designer (available for free on the dbx website).

-  Crossover Ethernet cable OR a couple straight through Ethernet cables with a switch/router.

Note: When connecting directly from a computer to the ZonePRO without a hub or switch, an Ethernet crossover cable must be used; the transmit and receive lines are crossed in an Ethernet crossover cable.  If connecting using a hub/switch/router in-between, you will need to use Ethernet straight-through cables.

How to get connected:

1.  Turn on the ZonePRO unit and connect it to the computer.  If you are using straight through Ethernet cables, then you will need a switch/router in-between.

2.  Now, you may open the ZonePRO GUI Designer software.  Make sure you open the newest version.  (Newest version is v3.2 as of November 2019).  An older version is installed as part of a package if you chose the default installation.

3.  Within ZonePRO GUI Designer, open the Networking Wizard.  (Click Network, then Properties).  Make sure that “Use Ethernet" is checked and “Use serial ports" is unchecked.  Hit next, then hit next again.

4.  You should now be on the Address Resolution page.  This page will always show the instance of ZonePRO Designer as well as all ZonePRO devices that you have connected.  It may take a few seconds for ZonePRO devices to appear.  Once the devices have populated, take note of the Status in the far-right column.  You want it to say “Resolved".  If it shows “Resolved", then skip to step 6.  If it shows up as “Detected", then the device is on a different subnet than your computer.  You will need to change the IP settings of the ZonePRO to communicate with your computer.

 5.  Once the unit is in a “Resolved" status, click Finish.  Click Network again, then Go Online.  After a few seconds, a virtual ZonePRO unit should appear in color.  You are now connected.
