Overview:
The LevelMAX Limiter Wizard is an update to the earlier IT HD Limiter Wizard spreadsheet available as a Configuration Tool from the I-Tech HD product pages on the Crown Audio and JBLPro sites. The IT HD Limiter Wizard was created as companion to the IT HD LevelMAX Guide. It is an aid to setting the LevelMAX Limiter's Automatic and Advanced modes. There is a tab for each of the modes.
The LevelMAX Suite was Introduced for the I-Tech HD amplifiers in early 2009, and was soon included on the CTS Series via the PIP-USP4/CN card. It has since been added to DSi 2.0, CDi Drivecore, DCi Dante, DCi Network and other amplifier models.
The spreadsheets also include a tab for the older Peak Voltage Limiter and Average Power Limiter, aka RMS Power Limiter, available on older Crown amps before LevelMAX was introduced.
LevelMAX™ Automatic tab: [formerly ITHD Automatic]
- There are now two fields to enter the speaker load impedance. In the old version you had to switch the impedance values back and forth in one field in order to get the correct values in the others.
- Minimum Impedance and 2hr power ratings are used for the RMS Voltage Threshold calculation.
- Nominal Impdeance and 100hr power ratings are used for the Thermal Voltage Threshold calculation.
- As before:
- If the minimum impedance is unknown, use the nominal impedance.
- If the 100hr power rating is unknown, use ~80% of the 2hr rating.
- Leave the Thermal Response time at 10s if no detailed transducer data is available.
LevelMAX™ Advanced tab: [formerly ITHD Advanced]
In addition to the Automatic tab features, the Advanced tab adds calculations for Peak Voltage Threshold, Peak Release and RMS Release times.
- The Voltage Peak Threshold calculation now scales correctly from 6dB @ 100Hz Low Pass Filter to 9dB @ 400Hz Low Pass Filter.
- Again, there are now two fields to enter the speaker load impedance.
- Minimum Impedance and 2hr power ratings are used for the RMS Voltage Threshold and Peak calculations.
Peak Voltage, Avg Power Limiter tab: [formerly IT-MAI Limiters]
- The RMS Power Limiter now correctly uses the 100hr power rating as stated in the manuals, instead of the 2hr power rating.
- Same as the LevelMAX Advanced, Peak Voltage Threshold is based on the 2hr power rating and now scales correctly from 6dB @ 100Hz LPF to 9 dB @ 400Hz LPF.
- RMS Voltage Release and Attack calculations were not valid for the Avg Power Limiter, and were removed.
ITHD Power Matrix tab: [new]
This tab simply shows the calculated RMS Voltage and Peak Voltage values for I-Tech HD amps, based on their published specifications assuming the amplfied audio is a sine wave.
