Multiple Rename Tool | AVX Architect

Video Manual Series

Written by Tony Smith

Updated at October 30th, 2026

This video demonstrates how to use the Multiple Rename tool in AVX Architect to rename multiple objects at once, streamlining your system design workflow. You’ll also learn how to use wildcards in object names to make naming faster and more efficient.

Transcript
In this video, we’re going to continue expanding on tips to help your system design workflow and cover multi object renaming. Multi object renaming is a right-click context sensitive tool that’s available in the system and virtual views.
In this example, I’ve placed three expanders into the system view workspace. These expanders still have the default names of D1, D2, and D3. Select all three expanders then right-click to find the Multiple Rename option. Selecting it will bring up the dialogue box for the Multiple Rename tool including some instructions. I’m going to change the names to EXP, followed by the number sign to include the auto generated numbers. The starting number can be changed below that. Let’s start our Expanders at 101. Click accept to make the changes, and we’ll now see that our expanders have been renamed expander 101 through 103.
This also works in the virtual view. Here I have four analog input objects. Select all these objects and open the Multiple Rename tool. I can set the name as “Mic”, followed by the number sign, and all our mics will follow the same naming structure. As a bonus, I’ve also included the signal naming wild card. This means that the signal name inherits the object name. As the signal follows forward to the next processing objects, that name will follow as well. You can still rename an object after you’ve used the Multiple Rename without affecting the other objects, just remember that this might affect the signal names if you’re using these various wild cards in the Signal Naming. Check out the video on Signal Naming for more information about this.
