High & Low Pass Filters | Virtual View - AVX Architect

Video Manual Series

Written by Tony Smith

Updated at October 30th, 2026

In this tutorial, we dive into the High and Low Pass Filter objects in AVX Architect’s Virtual View, essential tools for shaping audio by removing frequencies above or below a user-defined cutoff point. Learn how these filters work, where to find them in the Virtual Library, and how to configure them for precise audio control.

Transcript
In this video, we’ll continue to explore the Virtual view of AVX Architect and look at the High-pass and Low-pass filter objects. These filters are found in the Virtual view, under the “Crossovers/Filters” section of the audio processing objects. These filters are useful for removing frequencies above or below a user specified point. The High-pass filter will remove frequencies below this point, allowing high frequencies to pass. Useful for 70v systems to protect the amplifier from low frequencies or creating high-frequency driver feeds. The Low-pass filter will remove frequencies above the specified point, allowing low frequencies to pass. This could be useful for removing hiss or noise above the useful range of a speaker or creating feeds for sub-bass drivers.
Let’s look at the Factory panel for these filters. Notice that they are almost identical with similar controls. The enable button will disable the filter processing, acting as a bypass. Filter type will allow you to select the filter shape and cut-off slope. Frequency control adjusts the filter’s cutoff frequency point where frequencies will start to be removed. High-pass removes frequencies below the cutoff frequency, while Low-pass removes frequencies below the cutoff frequency.
At the top of the Factory panel, we have our usual object name, lock button, and selection mode switch. On the right, the “Properties” window has the usual naming, workspace location, and DSP allocation options. The “Options” section contains the usual channel count of the object block, and filters can contain up to the common 512 maximum channel count. Finally, the Max Slope will allow you to select between 24dB and 48dB per octave. The default is 24dB, and selecting 48dB will allow you to access more aggressive slopes from 30dB to 48dB.
