Importing a SketchUp Drawing to DDA

Overview:

SketchUp drawings can be imported into DDA using the JBL VS SketchUp Plugin from the download section on the link, but unlike CAD files, it has to be imported through the project settings window.


Installing the JBL Plugin on SketchUp

Once the JBL plugin has been downloaded, follow the instructions on this Sketch UP article: Manually Downloading Extensions


Exporting the file

  1. Once your drawing is completed in SketchUp, open op the JBL Plugin and click on the 'export' icon 

A warning message my appear:

  1. Create a .gcf file and save it.


Importing the file to DDA

  1. Create a new file.
  2. The Project Settings Window will open.
  3. Click on the Geo-File Folder.
  4. Browse to the exported SketchUp file location and select the file.
    1. If an error is displayed, and your file is saved on the cloud, move the .gcf file to a local file and try again.
  5. Once the file is selected, click OK the Project settings window.
     

  1. The window will close and the project will appear blank.
  2. Press the 'build model' icon. 

  1. A small window will briefly appear while it loads the imported model. 

Congratulations, you have successfully imported your SketchUp model to DDA.

 

Note:

If a project is already opened, you can still import the .gcf file accessing Edit > Project Settings and following steps 3 onwards.

 

 

Warning

Models cannot be combined. If a new model is exported into the project, it will replace the current project in display.
