Mixer Object | Virtual View - AVX Architect

Video Manual Series

Written by Tony Smith

Updated at October 30th, 2026

This video covers the Mixer object in the Virtual View of AVX Architect, part of a series on audio processing objects. The Mixer acts like a traditional audio mixer, combining multiple input sources with individual channel controls. You’ll learn mixer-specific terminology, explore its factory panel, see where to find it in the Virtual Library, and learn how to add it to your workspace.

Transcript
In this video, we’ll continue to explore the virtual view of AVX Architect and look at Mixer object. The Mixer object is found in the Virtual View, under the “Mixers and Gains” section of the audio processing objects. This mixer allows up to 512 input signals to be mixed to a mono or stereo output. Inspired by traditional mixing consoles, it also offers aux busses, group busses, and direct outs.
Before we look at the factory panel, let’s look at the Properties window to enable some features in the factory panel that are off by default. The Properties window has the usual naming, workspace location, and DSP allocation settings. The Options window includes the channel count. For this example, I’m going to set 32 input channels. The number of Groups and Auxes. This is selectable up to 4 of each. Notice that adding these Groups and Auxes will add corresponding outputs to the Mixer object block. Enabling Stereo will change our Mixer object from a mono to stereo output. Pan Law is attenuation that is applied to each channel at the central pan position, selectable to -3, -4.5, or -6db. Enabling Direct Outs will add additional outputs to our Mixer object block that will provide the individual input channel signals post polarity, gain, and mute.
Let’s look at the Mixer factory panel now. The Mixer will show 16 channels at a time, and banks can be toggled under this “Channels” section at the top of our Mixer. Each channel has a polarity switch for signal polarity. Gain that can be set by either moving this fader or by typing the value directly above. Mute, solo, and pan controls. The group selector buttons that will route that input to the selected group busses. Finally, some Aux level knobs to adjust the input level signal sent to the aux busses. On the right side of the mixer, we have master group and aux controls. All of these busses have level control, mute control, and a Post or Pre toggle. When set to post, input signals are sent to the buss after the polarity, mute, and gain. When set to pre, the input signals are sent after the polarity and mute. At the bottom right of the Mixer, we have our Master Left and Right level and mute controls.
