In this video, we’re going to quickly cover the rear panel of the OMNI 16e and 32e Expanders.
Each Expander has a power supply connection, as well as dual redundant Dante and HControl ports. These Expanders have USB connections on the back panel, but these currently do not have any functionality and are intended only for service and repair technicians. Pressing the Locate button will cause the LEDs on the front of the Expander to flash. The Expander will also flash in AVX Manager, and the pressing of this button can be used to trigger logic sequences and events.
OMNI Expanders have different amounts of available GPIO. The 16e has 12 GPIO, with two ground and two 5-volt reference connections. The 32e has double that, with 24 GPIO, four ground, and 4 5-volt reference connections. Expanders have inputs and outputs for analog and AES3 digital audio. Green connections are strictly for inputs, and orange connections are strictly for outputs, but blue connections can be configured to be an input or output. Every input and output can be individually configured to be analog or digital. The pinout for these connections is shield, positive, negative from left to right, and here’s some wiring guides for balanced and unbalanced cables.
