Hardware - Control Ports | AVX Architect
In this tutorial, we cover the GPIO objects in AVX Architect and how they digitally represent the GPIO connections on Soundweb OMNI hardware. Learn how to configure GPIO as inputs or outputs, how to use them in the Virtual View, and the different GPIO object types available. GPIO enables reliable interfacing with external devices for control, monitoring, and automation in AV systems.

In this video, we’re going to introduce you to the hardware control ports, or GPIO, on the Soundweb Omni devices.
In the System view, I’ve got a Soundweb Omni device loaded. On the device object, you’ll find the GPIO nodes, with inputs on the left and outputs on the right. Each GPIO port on the Soundweb Omni devices can be changed between a general purpose input or output. Select the object, and you’ll find the GPIO settings in the Properties Window on the right. Use these drop-downs to change the desired connection to a general purpose input or output, and the GPIO node on the object block will change from one side to the other. Remember that these changes must be done while the device is disconnected, and cannot be done while deployed.
Go to the Virtual View now and bring in a General Purpose Input and output into the workspace from the Component List. Let’s select the GPI first and look at some of the options available in the properties window. The default type is Logic Binary, which will provide an On/Off or High/Low value when a set voltage is detected. This default On and Off threshold are indicating that the On or High output will be provided on the object output when voltage above 2.5V is detected, and a Off or Low output will be provided when below .9V. The other type is Logic Continuous, which will provide a percentage value to the output based on the incoming voltage compared to a Reference voltage set here. The Reference voltage can be up to 12V.
The factory panels of the GPI and GPO are similar in that they will show a meter indicating either voltage or a percentage. This GPI is set to Logic Binary with an On threshold of 2.5V, and I’ve connected the 5V output on the back of the Omni device through a switch to this port. If I engage the switch, the meter will show that voltage is coming in. The measured voltage is displayed and the active LED and output node of the object block will be lit up. This GPO is set to the Logic Continuous type with the max voltage at 12V. If the input of this GPO is triggered high, then the meter will show the 12V output at 100% since this is simply a binary logic source.
