What parts are lubricated or require lubricant?

Martin products equipped with moving parts such as gobo/color effects, zoom/focus capabilities, and CMY flag systems come from factory lubricated with high temperature resistant silicone based grease.  If the product has a history of poor maintenance, some of the parts that are exposed out in the open such as guide and slide rails/rods, can have debris settle on them and require to be cleaned and re-lubricated.

Do I have to lubricate Martin parts?

The short answer is no, as Martin parts that require lubrication come from factory with lubricant grease applied to them that are intended to last through the products lifetime.  However, there may be times that call for the need to re-lubricate certain parts, such instances may be in cases where the part being removed or handled and needs cleaning, and therefore a coating of lubricant is required.

What type of lubricant to use?

Whether you have an LED fixture or a fixture with a discharge lamp, these products build up high temperatures that require lubrication that can withstand these high temperatures and still maintain its effectiveness. High quality high temperature resistant silicone based lubricant is highly recommend.  

Martin uses Kluber Barrierta 55/0 lubricant grease as the choice of lubricant due to its reputation of long-term stability and thermal resistance. This lubricant has the perfect viscosity to ensure optimal performance of the parts it is applied to.

Martin does not recommend the use of any other lubricant. Some lubricants that advertise or promote resistance against high temperatures can dry up quickly and behave as an adhesive seizing or freezing parts, potentially creating bigger problems such as errors and unusual behavior.

​How do I apply lube to a part?

When using the Barrierta lube, only a very small amount is required to apply a very thin layer over the surface of the part. You can use a cue tip to work the lube into the surface until the entire surface is covered with a barely visible coat of lube.

​Does Martin provide a lubricant?

Martin does carry 4-gram tubes of the Kluber Barrierta 55/0 lubricant grease as a spare part. The part number is 37302015. Please contact our parts department for pricing and availability.
