Using the VNC Client App in G5 Panels

Rating

Introduction

The G5 panel comes with an App called “VNC Client". Unlike the VNC Server, which lets you access the G5 panel remotely, the VNC Client lets you access another device remotely. Thus you can see and even control another AMX G4 or G5 panel from your G5 panel, or even another device like a PC which is running its own VNC server.

Panel Design

There can be only one instance of the VNC Client running on your panel at a given time, but you can set up multiple Application Windows to connect to different servers and switch them dynamically. The sample TP5 panel file “VNC Client App test.tp5" illustrates the setup of two Application windows. You use Add Application Window, choosing the VNC Client App, and can name each window to suit. You enter the specific App Parameters for each window, as well as their desired locations on the overall panel (see Fig 1).

Then, you can program panel buttons to show the desired VNC Client App window. In the button Events tab, for the Push event, add a Show action for the desired Application Window (see Fig 2).

Once the panel has been downloaded, you may also make changes dynamically from NetLinx code (refer to the Modero G5 programming manual, VNC Commands). For instance, the command:

^BVG-VNC Page 1,ipAddress=10.35.88.67

changes the target IP address for the App Window, and

^BVL-VNC Page 1,1

is the login command which will cause connection to the new target.
