Rating

This article explains the location and purpose of the bootloader switch on the Martin MAC Quantum and MAC Encore series light fixtures. This switch is used during firmware recovery or reinstallation procedures.

This switch is also sometimes accidently pressed and activated unknowingly after maintenance or repairs.

Bootloader Switch Location

The bootloader switch on the MAC Quantum Profile/Wash and the MAC Encore Performance/Wash is located inside the base of the fixture, on the main display

Steps to Locate:

  1. Power off and unplug the fixture completely.

  1. Place the fixture on a secure, static-safe work surface.

  1. Remove the base cover by loosening the screws (typically Torx or Philips-head).

  1. Carefully lift the cover to expose the internal electronics.

  1. Look for a small tactile switch near the edge of the main display control PCB.

  • It may be located near the USB or Ethernet ports, or next to a firmware update header.

  • The switch is typically black or red and slightly recessed.

Note: Use caution when handling internal components to avoid ESD (electrostatic discharge) damage.

Use Case: Bootloader Mode

Pressing and holding the bootloader switch while powering on the fixture forces it into bootloader mode, which is used for:

  • Firmware reinstallation via USB or DMX tools.

  • Recovering from failed firmware updates.

 Warnings & Safety

  • Only qualified technicians should open and service the fixture.

  • Always disconnect power before servicing.
