What is Safe Mode?
There may be a case where you need to interupt a device during its normal boot up so you can perform a Factory Reset of the device. This is called Safe Mode. It allows the device to boot and connect to the Network without running any program loaded in the device. The device will be in a Paused state after booting up.
Booting in Safe Mode
The process of booting into Safe Mode is slightly different depending on if the model you are working with has an LCD display or not.
Devices with LCD displays [BLU-GPX/ 16/ 160/ 120/ 32/ 320/ 325/ 326DA/ 80 /800 /805 /806DA]
- Apply power to the device to start its boot up.
- When the LCD displays “WELCOME…..", press and hold the Locate button.
- When the display changed to “SAFE MODE" you can release the Locate button.
The device will continue to boot normally and connect to the network but will not run any programming loaded in the device. The device will sequentially flash the Input and Output card LEDs when it is in Safe Mode. Once the device has booted completely, you will be able to Telnet to the device as you would normally.
Devices without LCD displays [BLU-DA/ 50/ 100/ 101/ 102/ 103]
- Apply power to the device to start its boot up.
- When the COM / STAT / ERR LEDs chase in sequence, press and hold the Locate button on the rear of the device.
- When the STAT LED lights a steady green you can release the Locate button. If you have the device connected to a Network, you will also see the COM LED light at this time.
The device will sequentially flash the Input and Output card LEDs when it is in Safe Mode. To exit Safe Mode, power cycle the device and let it boot normaly.
