Devices Affected:
Apple TV Generation 2 or newer
Apple iPad (ipadOS17 or newer)
Apple iPhone (iOS17 or newer)
Symptom:
No Dante audio is heard when attempting to use one of the Apple devices above with the AMX N2612S, AMX N2612S-C, or AMX N2615D encoder and Dante Audio. The AMX N4321D is also affected since that device only supports 48 kHz sample rate.
Issue:
Beginning with the second generation of Apple TV units, iOS 17, and iPadOS 17, these devices no longer re-sample audio to 48 kHz. Instead, they default to outputting audio at 44.1 kHz for their apps, such as TV+ and Music. Apple permits application developers to specify the supported audio parameters for their applications.
Solution:
Two solutions have been identified and are detailed below:
In Dante Controller, all Dante devices must be configured to adjust their sample rates to align with the sample rate of the Apple device, which is 44.1 kHz. (Not applicable if using the AMX N4321D).
In the event it is not possible to alter the sample rates on all Dante devices, or if utilizing the N4321D, it will be necessary to resample the audio prior to the encoder. Our testing has confirmed that utilizing the AMX DCE-1 in-line controller effectively resamples the audio from the Apple devices to 48 kHz.
